For the first time, a fascinating and colorful picture of the painting and drawing art that originated in the Westland is sketched. The historical backgrounds of the villages, castles and country estates of the Westland are explained using old maps and special paintings and drawings from the period 1500 to 1800.
In the 19th century, the region was visited by romantic painters such as Andreas Schelfhout and Wijnand Nuyen. Followed by JB Jongkind, Max Liebermann, Vincent van Gogh and the painters of the Hague School. Even after 1950, the Westland continued to attract artists, as evidenced by the works of Kees Andrea, Ber Mengels and Hermanus Berserik, among others. In a separate contribution, attention is also paid to the painters of 'home soil'.

Schilders van het Westland is richly illustrated and highlights the work of about a hundred artists. This makes the book definitely worthwhile for both those interested in regional history and art lovers.
